When we communicate, our audience may be watching us and the movement of our mouths. For men and women with unattractive lips and surrounding perioral structures, this may lead to a self-conscious moment. As we age, our lips tend to lose their volume as the skin thins. The subcutaneous fat beneath the skin becomes less and less and with the constant movement of the mouth over the years, the circular muscle that frames the oral cavity produces radial lines that emanate from the lip, much like the spokes on a bicycle wheel. Smoking, sun exposure, genetics, and constant movement of the mouth only exacerbate the situation. It’s no wonder that perioral rejuvenation is a large component of creating a more youthful and attractive appearance whether the lips are moving or not.

Part of rejuvenating lips and the surrounding area requires volume replacement. This can be obtained easily with dermal fillers. However, some of our patients request a more permanent solution. Permanent lip implants that can be placed in as little as 20 minutes in our operating room suite through small incisions placed inside the corners of the mouth. These silicone-grade fusiform-shaped implants are pliable and very natural looking once placed. This type of procedure can improve the shape of the lips, increase the size and fullness of the lips, and correct the symmetry of the lips

Lip implants are placed in as little as 20 minutes, a quick and minimally-invasive surgery with long-lasting results: Anesthesia is applied, tiny incisions are made in the skin, the implant is inserted into the lip, and the incisions are closed with sutures.
Fullness of the lips that may have been lost due to aging is restored with lush loveliness.
You will feel more confident to freely share your smile.

During the initial cheek implant consultation, Dr. English will analyze your face, your lips, and discusses your objectives. He will also review your medical history and lifestyle choices while conducting a physical exam to determine your skin quality, elasticity, and thickness for optimal results. You may be a candidate for lip augmentation surgery if you:
-
desire fuller lips or more symmetrical lips;
-
are in good physical and mental health, with good elasticity of the skin;
-
are a non-smoker or committed to refraining from smoking;
-
have realistic expectations of the outcome of your lip augmentation; and
-
understand the recovery process.

You may have some bruising, swelling, and discomfort immediately following lip augmentation. Recovery is usually 1-2 weeks. It is important that you carefully follow Dr. English’s instructions to ensure long-lasting results and avoid complications.
