Gynecomastia is a condition whereby men develop what appear to be feminine breasts. Many things can cause this, including weight gain, heredity, and certain medications. The development of breasts is embarrassing for many men, and may cause them to wear loose, baggy shirts in order to cover up this condition. Male breast surgery can help men regain their confidence and pride in their physique.

Many guys, particularly those who are heavy set, sometimes joke about their “man boobs”; however, for those with more serious cases of gynecomastia, this is no laughing matter. Many males feel less masculine, and would rather their breasts just be gone. Unfortunately, this is not always easy to do even after losing weight, in which case male breast surgery (also known as gynecomastia surgery) could be required in order to fully sculpt the chest area.

During the initial consultation, Dr. English will examine your chest and discuss your objectives. He will also review your medical history and lifestyle choices while conducting a physical exam to determine your skin quality, elasticity, and thickness for optimal results. You may be a candidate for gynecomastia surgery if you:

  • have significant fat and/or breast tissue in the chest area that is not responsive to weight loss;

  • are in good physical and mental health, with good elasticity of the skin;

  • are a non-smoker or committed to refraining from smoking;

  • have realistic expectations of the outcome of your male breast surgery; and

  • understand the recovery process.
