It is an unfortunate fact that a woman’s breasts will begin to sag as she gets older. The aging process causes the skin to lose elasticity, leading to a loss in firmness and shape. This problem isn’t confined to just older women, as females who develop sooner than others may naturally have sagging breasts. Other conditions such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight loss can take their toll on the breasts as well, causing them to sag much sooner than most women would like. A breast lift (mastopexy) performed by Dr. English could be the answer for many ladies.

A variety of techniques may be used to perform a breast lift; however, Dr. English’s philosophy is to complete the procedure in such a way that his patients experience as little scarring as possible. Depending upon your anatomy, he may use only a crescent incision above the areola, or make a lollipop-shaped cut that goes completely around your areola and then continues vertically down the center of your breast. He sometimes modifies these incisions, particularly when additional procedures are performed concurrently or being planned for a future date.

You may desire a breast lift if:
-
Your nipples and areolas sag a great deal below your breast mound. A breast lift will reposition your nipples and areolas to a higher, more perky position.
-
The distance between your collarbone and nipples is greater than 22 centimeters. A breast lift will reposition your breasts to a more natural, youthful position.
-
A majority of your breast tissue sits below the inframammary crease, or fold just beneath your breast. A breast lift will minimize this droop.

During your consultation, which will take place in his office, Dr. English will advise you which procedure he thinks is best. At that time, he will discuss the various types of breast lifts and review any additional procedures you want done so that they can be considered as factors as well. He will also review your medical history and lifestyle choices while conducting a physical exam to determine your skin quality, elasticity, and thickness for optimal results. You may be a candidate for surgery if you:
-
are in good physical and mental health, with good elasticity of the skin;
-
are a non-smoker or committed to refraining from smoking;
-
have realistic expectations of the outcome of your surgery; and
-
understand the recovery process.

Dr. English may perform your breast lift under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia in his surgical facility located in Little Rock, AR. To support your recovery from breast lift surgery, Dr. English will apply bandages or dressings to your incisions, and may advise you to wear a support bra or an elasticated bandage for reducing swelling and to support the breasts during the healing process.
